From WSS to MOSS
Upgrading your SharePoint environment the right way
WSS to MOSS Migration
Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) is one of the greatest “free” pieces of software available today. Many organizations have taken advantage of WSS with great results by deploying the technology for teams, projects and information management. Growing success has these same organizations looking to get even more out of this platform. The next logical step is Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS). While it isn’t free, MOSS adds tremendous features and functionalities to your SharePoint environment, enabling your business to take things to the ‘next level’.

TCSC provides a Rapid Migration Program (RaMP) that safely and efficiently moves you from WSS to MOSS. Upon completion, your existing SharePoint environment will have all the capabilities of MOSS, allowing you to build an intranet, automate business processes, manage users and incorporate an industry-leading search solution.
Migration Program
For those that have already deployed WSS 3.0 and are looking for more, TCSC’s RaMP service offering helps you get the most out of MOSS without compromising your existing environment. A 5-day RaMP delivers the following:
  • Upgraded MOSS environment.
  • Failsafe migration process.
  • Activation of new features.
  • MOSS feature training presentation.
  • Construction of demo sites using new features.
  • Knowledge transfer with IT Admins.
Follow-on Options
Once MOSS is up and running, TCSC can provide additional insight regarding the following services:
  • Search Enhancement: Configuration of enterprise search, including training on how to unlock its power.
  • Web Content Management: MOSS publishing and content management tools to create inspired websites.
  • Business Process automation: Leveraging workflow to automated business processes.
  • Many Others.
Details of MOSS features
Publishing and Web Content Management: If you wish to create internet type content and/or nice looking intranet sites, you need the Publishing and WCM functionality. This allows non-developers to create custom web pages and route them for approval and publishing.

Pre-Configured Workflows: MOSS includes numerous out-of-the-box, browser-based workflows (i.e. ‘Approval’ and ‘Collect Feedback’).

My Sites: When enabled, users can manage/maintain their own personal space in SharePoint. This provides a location for personal documents, tasks, calendars and much more.

Enterprise Search: Beyond simply SharePoint sites, MOSS can be used to index content from file shares and/or other web sites, providing a single location to find almost anything. Moreover, you have the ability to define ‘best bets’ for specific search terms or create ‘scopes’ that allow users to search a cross-sectional topic (i.e. “all policy documents”).

Audiences: This feature allows you to “target” content to specific users. For example, if your landing pages are too busy, you can use targeting so that users see only those web parts that apply to them based on their profile and/or memberships.
